Today Michelin announced the Michelin stars 2014 for the Netherlands. The 2014 guide will go on sale on 28 November 2013.

Michelin has awarded a third star to "De Leest" in Vaassen, a restaurant run by husband and wife team Jacob Jan Boerma and Kim Veldman. The couple opened De Leest in 2002 and in that same year the restaurant was awarded its first Michelin star (2003 guide). A second star followed in 2006 (2007 guide). De Leest is located in Vaassen, a small town on the fringes of De Veluwe and a good hour's drive from Amsterdam.

De Leest is the fourth restaurant in the Netherlands to have been awarded three stars, after Parkheuvel in 2002 (chef Cees Helder retired in 2006), De Librije in Zwolle in 2004 and Oud Sluis in 2006. Sergio Herman's three-star restaurant Oud Sluis in Sluis will no longer be featured in the Michelin guide. In June 2013 Sergio Herman announced his intention to close Oud Sluis in December 2013.

Three restaurants have gained a second Michelin star: Bord'eau restaurant in Amsterdam, FG restaurant (formerly Ivy) in Rotterdam and Fred restaurant, also located in Rotterdam. Head chef at FG restaurant is Francois Geurds, former sous-chef at Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck in Bray. Two-star restaurant Ron Blaauw in Amsterdam is no longer featured in the Michelin guide. Ron Blaauw relaunched his restaurant as Ron Gastrobar and  regains one Michelin star in the 2014 guide. With these changes the number of two-star restaurants in the Netherlands now stands at 19.

In the 2014 edition nine restaurants have been awarded a first star, which brings the number of one-star restaurants in the Netherlands to 84. Among the new laureates are Bridges in Amsterdam, the aforementioned Ron Gastrobar in Amsterdam, Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam and the eponymous restaurant of Lucas Rive in Hoorn, the former two-star chef of De Bokkedoorns in Haarlem.
